Liebe Medibibler,
meine Umfrage bezgl.

MEDICAL MATRIX MEDICAL SPECIALTY NEWSLETTERS

***************************************************************

Medical Matrix is a Web resource that presents a database of
Internet clinical medicine resources. Medical Matrix categorizes
resources by disease, specialty, and other interest areas. It is
designed as a "home page" for a physician's or healthworker's
computer. Medical Matrix is a long term project of the Internet
Working Group of the Amercian Medical Informatics Association. It
is a project that is being carried out in collaboration with a
network of United States librarians who have received funding from
the National Library of Medicine.
We are currently looking for editors and contributors!
These positions are described below. As the Medical Matrix Project
expands, we believe that our HTML homepage will be a central
resource to access clinically relevant Internet medical information
for a global medical community. We hope to play an integral role in
providing cohesion between different medical specialties and
interest areas.

INTRODUCTION

The following is the structure of the homepage of Medical Matrix.
Each of these sections has an introductory paragraph that will
point to newletters in these interest areas. In addition, each of
the medical specialties or diseases will have a pointer to their
newsletter as they emerge.

Interest Areas:

DISEASE CATEGORIZED INFORMATION
SPECIALTY CATEGORIZED INFORMATION
MEDICAL EDUCATION
HEALTHCARE POLICY
CLINICAL PRACTICE ISSUES
MEDICAL LITERATURE SEARCHES
ALLIED HEALTHWORKER RESOURCES
PATIENT EDUCATION AND SUPPORT
MEDICAL INSTITUTIONS, SCHOOLS, AND LIBRARIES
ELECTRONIC JOURNALS
PROGRAMS AND DOCUMENTS
INTRODUCTION TO MEDICAL INTERNET RESOURCES
HOW TO USE INTERNET MEDICAL RESOURCES

EDITOR FOR A MEDICAL INTEREST AREA:

Editors will be required to work on their newsletters on a regular
basis. Each interest area newsletter should be posted to Internet on a
monthly basis. The newsletter can be posted by editors at their own
institution and forward their URL to the Medical Matrix staff.

CONTRIBUTORS:

Contributors will forward information as the needs of the newsletter
and their expertise dictate. The Internet WG has a database of
individuals who are interested in contributing to the newsletter.
We are very interested in expanding it.

If you are interested in working as an editor or contributor please
let us know.

Annoucement

Pharmaceutical Information Group

During the Oslo Conference, 30 information specialists of the
pharmaceutical industries from 12 European countries decided to come
together to create a section of EAHIL called "Pharmaceutical Information
Group".

The first objective of the group will be to ensure a large coverage of
pharmaceutical industries information needs by EAHIL future activities,
mainly during the 1996 Conference in Coimbra, and in active collaboration
with the Newsletter; this is intended to increase the participation of
information specialists from pharmaceutical industries.

In broader perspective, the other objectives will be :

- To promote and develop access and spreading of pharmaceutical
information.
- To promote contacts between information specialists from pharmaceutical
industries in Europe, with the view to support exchange of ideas and
experience.
- To defend the interests of people from pharmaceutical industries in
Europe.
- To establish contacts between international and national sister
organisations.

One delegate for each country present was elected to establish contacts
with national sister organisations, or to create a national structure
where it did not exist.

Future elections will appoint members of the executive board.

As soon as the creation of the group has been approved by the Board of EAHIL
that meets in January, an annoucement will be mailed to all interested
people, describing affiliation modalities. Affiliation to EAHIL will be
required, but so far no additional fee has been planned.

Subject: Ref Q: Historical pictures/biographies

I was wondering if anyone had information and/or pictures of the
following (rather obscure) people. One of our lecturers is writing a
history of renal tumours and would like to include some biographical
details. Could responses (if any there be :^) be posted direct to
me at deborah@wnmeds.ac.nz

They are:

Oskar Stoek, who in 1908 was working at the Pathologisch-anatomischen
Universitatsinstitute in Wien.

Otto Lubarsch, 1860-1933, who according to Bulloch's History of
Bacteriology, was the Director of the Pathol. Anat. Institute in Berlin.

Henry WS Wright, who was working in London in 1922.

C. Oberling, who in 1960 was working at the Institut de Recherches
sur le Cancer Villejuif.

I've looked for obituaries, checked what biographical tools we have,
and done Histline and Medline searches.

Thanks in advance

The new shows Chicago Hope and ER haven't yet featured medical librarians
but we should never give up hope. I am imaginging something along the lines
of:

[Two doctors in blood smeared uniforms come rushing into the hospital library.
They are both frantic. And arguing.]
1st Doctor: "Left side. Left side. Left, left, left".
2nd Doctor: "Right side. Right, right, right".
Medical Librarian: "Now gentlemen what seems to be the problem?"
1st Doctor: "The heart. Is it on the left side or the right side. We need
to know right NOW!"
2nd Doctor: "Now, now, NOW!"
Medical Librarian [Laughs. Then smiles nonchalantly]: "One minute gentlemen.
Let's just go over here to the reference section and see what Mr. Gray has
to say about this old heart business."

[Important sounding music. Closeup of the doctors' faces. They sigh and look
lovingly at the librarian who calmly reaches for Gray's Anatomy. Next day,
in the office of the chief administrator, a very-important person is seen
writing a memo on the computer screen: "Our medical librarian nearly saved
a life. Let's give her a bit more money."]
