Biochemical properties
Aspartyl proteases (also named acid protease) contain two conserved aspartate residues in their catalytic centers [1]. This family includes pepsins, cathepsins, and renins.
Allergological significance
Allergens belonging to this family include the major cockroach allergen Bla g 2 [2] and several fungal allergens. In addition, the gamma-conglutin seed storage proteins from lupine seeds belong to this family.
