Biochemical properties
This protein family consists of bacterial and plant toxins that inhibit the protein synthesis in eukaryotic cells by inactivating the 60S ribosomal subunits.
Allergological significance
RIPs from several plant species were described to bind IgE from sera of individuals with occupational contact to these proteins [1].
