Welcome to the Interdisciplinary Outpatient Department for Echinococcosis at the General Hospital of Vienna / Medical University of Vienna

Echinococcosis is the most important and potentially dangerous autochthonous parasitic disease for humans in central Europe. Echinococcosis is more commonly known as hydatid disease or is referred to as infections caused by the fox or dog tapeworms.

The Interdisciplinary Outpatient Department for Echinococcosis aims to provide state of the art clinical care and evidence based medicine for patients who are suffering from (definite or suspected) echinococcosis. The outpatient department is a collaborative service of clinical departments (Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Surgery, Radiology, Interventional Radiology, Parasitology) and offers individualized clinical management and treatment echinococcosis patients. 

We are located at the AKH Wien (General Hospital of Vienna / Medical University of Vienna) and physicians of the following Clinical Departments are jointly providing clinical care for patients:


  1. Department of Medicine I (Division of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine)

  2. Department of Surgery

  3. Department of Radiodiagnostics (Division of cardiovascular and interventional Radiology)
