Funding opportunities for companies working with universities
- FFG Innovationsscheck: The Innovationsscheck is a funding programme for small to medium-sized companies in Austria aimed at facilitating their entry into ongoing research and innovations. Thanks to the Innovationsscheck, companies can apply to research organisations (extra-university research institutions, technical universities and universities) and pay, depending on their requirements, with the cheque for fundable services. The scheme has been put in place to allow SMEs to overcome hurdles that hold them back from cooperating with research organisations.
- FFB basic programme: Collective Research: The Collective Research programme line in the basic programme provides a support option for cooperation-based research projects, the results of which are made available to the industry. Cooperation-based research projects in which work is carried out by universities and technical universities must be submitted by a stakeholder and the research institutes then work as a sub-contractor for the stakeholder. Networks with a high degree of funding are obliged to publish the results of their research in the industry. Companies are generally involved through financial contributions. The funding period is one year and projects spanning several years are funded on a year-by-year basis.
- FFG Bridge: Projects that primarily relate to fundamental research are funded which already offer signs of realistic utilisation potential, such that one or more companies are willing to co-finance the project or participate as a backer in the project too. The funding is open to all areas of research.
- FFG KLIPHA: Before a company can launch a drug or medical product onto the market, it must be tested in clinical trials. The trials are generally carried out in three consecutive phases and only by the end of the second clinical phase can an informative judgement be made regarding the effect of the product. This is why young companies need a lot of time and money and are very much dependent on risk capital and public funding.
- Christian Doppler Laboratory: The Christian Doppler Research Society promotes cooperation between science and business. Specifically, this takes place in Christian Doppler laboratories (CD laboratories) in which fundamental research is carried out on application questions from companies.
These CD laboratories are set up for a period of seven years at universities or in extra-university research facilities. Under the guidance of highly trained scientists, the research groups in the laboratories work in close collaboration with corporate partners to find innovative answers to entrepreneurial research questions.
- 7. EU research framework programme (in all tracks)
