» FWF Special Research Programs ans Doctoral Programs
The aim of the FWF Special Research Programs, FWF Spezialforschungsbereiche, is to set up research networks according to international standards by means of autonomous development of research areas in a given university site for the execution of international and interdisciplinary long-term research projects.
Doktoratskollegs (Doctoral Programs) are educational centres for the training of highly qualified academics from the national and international scientific community. Their aim is to foster the development of special fields in Austrian research centres and the continuity and impact of said scientific areas.

» Christian Doppler Laboratories
The Christian Doppler Research Society fosters application-oriented basic research. It facilitates bridge building between basic research and industrial applications. Highly qualified scientists from university and external research institutes participate together with industrial establishments in this interdisciplinary research.

» Ludwig Boltzmann Institutes and Clusters
The Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft is an extramural research institution for the disciplines of medicine, humanities, and social and cultural sciences based in Austria. Special emphasis is given to translational research, that is, to research in the interface between basic and applied research.
