About us

The Clinical Department of Hematology and Hemostaseology is part of Vienna’s General Hospital with approximately 100 employees working in clinical routine, science or administration. We are among Europe’s largest hematology and coagulation centres.

Our main aim is to provide patients with the best possible care according to the latest medical standards. Through our comprehensive research we are able to offer access to the most advanced diagnosis and therapeutic procedures conducted within the framework of international scientific study groups. Our university level training faculty guarantees high standards. This is accentuated by the fact that the department has also been awarded the quality management certificate ISO 9001:2008, thus demonstrating that our patients can expect only the highest standards from our employees.

The Vienna General Hospital is equipped with the most sophisticated modern technology. This enables us to work closely with many of the other hospital departments which in turn facilitates optimal communication and provides patients with the highest standard of care. In addition to this, we work closely with numerous internationally recognised medical and scientific establishments.

Our key research agenda contains on acute and chronic leukemias, lymphomas, myelodysplastic syndromes, multiple myeloma, chronic myeloproliferative syndromes, blood coagulation disorder (e.g. haemophilia, thrombopenia), venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.

As a member of the Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC), the Division of Hematology and Hemostaseology is involved in numerous clinical activities and research cooperations.

Ulrich Jäger, M.D., Professor of Hematology
