The Art of Lecturing: Intensive course on scientific presentation

Inhalt
The goal of this course is for participants to learn to give effective lectures at scientific meetings. The focus is on the presentation of yourself in front of large and small audiences. We will discuss modern approaches to presentation to improve each participant’s repertoire.
An effective talk sends a clear message and flows by telling a story. Improve your language skills for giving presentations in English: we dedicate time each day to drill you on English that is important for medical presentation.
The course is limited to 15 participants. Each participant must prepare a 10-min scientific presentation including visuals. The prepared presentations have to be sent to the course director at least 6 weeks before the course starts so we can give you feedback in advance. Talks by class members will be videotaped. The videotape gives you direct visual feedback of your performance. The class will discuss the strength of the talk and the points that need improvement.
We will focus also on poster-presentation, the role of the chairperson and the discussion-facilitator, the structure of a lecture and a series of lectures, as well as the limits of Power Point and the effective use of other visual aids for presentation.
Active involvement during the course is necessary as well as the mandatory preparation of a presentation by the participants before the course starts.
