Distribution of Anaesthesia in the sections: Cardiac-Thoracic-Vascular
Hatched: Tranquilizing analgesia (cardiac pacemaker, defibrillators and bronchoscopies)

A total of 3952 anaesthesia procedures were performed at our department in 1997. Anaesthesia for large operations was carried out in the operation wing II (level 09) where 5 operating tables are located parallel to each other. As a contribution to work economization, within our own planning strategy, the anaesthesia induction rooms 1 - 4 have been reconstructed in such a way before settlement, that anaesthesia can be insti-tuted in an overlapping fashion. In seriously ill patients, this overlap may extend from 1-2 hours. Thus, a total of 9 simultaneous anaesthesia working places exist in this area.

Regional anaesthesia was administered in 241 patients. These included 103 epidural anaesthesias (with and without a catheter), of which 98 were lumbar and 5 thoracic (hatched), 63 spinal anaesthesias, and 75 planned combined-anaesthesias (general + regional).

Graphical Anaesthesia-Statistics

op2sta.tif (62686 Byte)

Example: First page of November 1997; the names of patients have been erased

Procedure: For each patient who was operated and for each day of the year, a horizontal bar is entered by the computer via automatic importation of data from the documentation system. This bar indicates the duration of anaesthesia, localized in terms of day of the week, operating room and 24-hour clock time

Interpretation:
* Every day in the main operating rooms multiple inductions are administered in an overlapping fashion.
* Every day in the 5 main operating rooms a mean of 2-3 operations are performed well beyond the usual working hours.
* Every week, a mean of 6 operations are performed at night
(after 22.00 hours or over midnight)
