Activity Report
Since the 56th Session of the ISI in Lisbon the ISI-CRA has expanded in numbers and scope. Our membership has grown from 21 to 29 (Africa: 1, Asia: 5, Europe: 12, North America: 10, Oceania: 1).
In terms of scope, our committee now includes researchers and practitioners in the areas of financial, adversarial and operational risk, going beyond the previous emphasis on reliability, healthcare policy , and medical risk.
The activities of the committee were:
- expansion of the membership of ISI‐CRA by inviting distinguished speakers at relevant conferences to join;
- co-organization of the ICRA4-meeting in Limassol, Cyprus (May 26-26, 2011), arranged by Alex Karagrigoriou, Lutz Edler, and Chrys Caroni;
- creation of three invited paper sessions during the 58th Session of the ISI in Dublin, August 2011, on the following topics:
- “Risk Communication to a Lay Audience Reflecting Uncertainty and Variability Issues” organized by John Bailer, Lutz Edler, and Helen MacGillivray
- “Statistical Risk Assessment in Trustworthy Computing” organized by Mehmet Sahinoglu
- “Adversarial Risk Analysis in Counterterrorism” organized by David Banks.
- “Risk Communication to a Lay Audience Reflecting Uncertainty and Variability Issues” organized by John Bailer, Lutz Edler, and Helen MacGillivray
Other Issues
Lutz Edler is stepping down as ISI-CRA chair, and David Banks is taking over from him. The formal transfer will occur at the Dublin meeting, but the process has already begun and is going smoothly. Anna Gordon has accepted the post of Scientific Secretary of the ISI-CRA. Harald Heinzl has agreed to continue serving as the committee’s webmaster, and will maintain our site at www.meduniwien.ac.at/isi-cra/.
Looking ahead, the ISI-CRA is exploring two possible sites for a 2013 meeting. We are also considering the creation of an educational program for risk practitioners and public officials in developing nations, and we are examining ways to strengthen our relationships with other professional societies.
