Untersuchung von Signalwegen, die Wachstum, Überleben und Apoptose von Krebszellen regulieren
Projekte:
Rezeptortyrosinkinasen als Angriffspunkte für Krebstherapien
Signalwege, die von Rezeptortyrosinkinasen (RTKs) der FGF-Rezeptor Familie (fibroblast growth factor) und der EGF-Rezeptor Familie (epidermal growth factor) reguliert werden, sind in vielen menschlichen Krebsarten überaktiviert. Unsere Forschung dient dem Ziel (1.) zu verstehen, wie diese Signale das Wachstum und Überleben von Krebszellen kontrollieren (2.) dieses Wissen für die Entwicklung neuer Krebstherapien nutzbar zu machen (3.) die Mechanismen zu charakterisieren, die über das Ansprechen bzw. die Resistenz gegenüber Therapien mit Inhibitoren dieser RTKs bestimmen.

Aktivine und Follistatine in der Krebsentstehung
Aktivine sind Signalproteine aus der TGF (tumor growth factor) beta Familie, die in vielen Zelltypen als Regulatoren von Wachstum und Differenzierung dienen. Ihre Aktivität wird normalerweise durch die Expression neutralisierender Faktoren, die man als Follistatine bezeichnet, kontrolliert. In diesem Projekt ist es unser Ziel (1.) die Frequenz und die Mechanismen der Deregulierung dieses ausbalancierten Systems im Zuge der Krebsentstehung zu klären (2.) die Folgen einer veränderten Aktivin/Follistatin Expression für Wachstum und Apoptose von Krebszellen zu untersuchen.
