Newborn child with incomplete lip palate

The University Hospital for Craniomaxillofacial and Oral Surgery treats inpatients and outpatients with various malformations in the head and throat area. The majority are patients with cleft-lip-face palates. Nowadays, these malformations are increasingly discovered before the child’s birth during prenatal ultrasound diagnostics. In many cases counselling takes place even before the child is born when the mother-to-be comes to our outpatient department. It seems very important to us to let the parents of the unborn child know that with today’s improved methods of treatment cleft-lip-face palates are very well treatable and that generally no lifelong handicap is caused by this condition. After the child’s birth the first examination of its condition takes place in our outpatient department.

The present team of doctors of the outpatient clinic for cleft-lip-face palates and craniofacial anomalies:
Prof. Christian Schopper, MD., DMD., PhD.
Univ. Professor Arnulf Baumann, MD., DMD., PhD.
Professor Clemens Klug, MD., DMD.
Florian Katauczek, MD., DMD.
