Requirement: Completion of the internship in Orthodontics
The internship will be held in the outpatient rooms of the
hospital. You will hear interesting facts about Surgical Orthodontics,
Temporomandibular Joint Disorders, Tumors and Malformations
in the Facial Area.
The internship ends with an oral exam on the Thursday (study
the subjects covered in the book by Watzek/ Schroll). Students
who receive an A will receive 2 bonus points counting towards
the written exam.
FAQ
QUESTION: I took the exam at the most recent date,
which turned out badly, and did not pass by preparing for
it with lecture notes and the three volumes `Watzek
& Schroll’.
Please help me by recommending preparation material with which
this exam can be passed. I don’t understand why you
can bring this exam forward if, with the experience from the
first two parts of the studies and the recommended preparation
material, you only have a 50% chance of passing. (All the
other students, except for one, got a D)
ANSWER: Unfortunately the last exam turned out
much worse (50%) than the ones before (average failing rate
30%). I have thought about the reasons for this: many students
ticked some right answers but didn’t tick other right
answers or ticked wrong answers on top of the right ones -
this led to them ‘giving away’ valuable points.
Another factor was that the questions weren’t read properly.
My whole lecture is on the internet and still only 60% of
the questions were answered correctly. The rest of the questions
were given to me by the respective senior doctors and Prof.
Ewers, and should have been covered during their lectures.
I recently held a meeting with the senior doctors and talked
about dealing in more detail with questions during lectures.
The last questions of the exam were from the book
‘Schwenzer- Spezielle
Kiefer- und Gesichtschirurgie’.
However, I have to say that for certain topics, hospital-specific
therapies and surgical methods will always be asked. Finally,
I have to agree with you that without important knowledge,
like orthodontics and dental surgery, studying the field of
oral and maxillofacial surgery is much harder. Therefore Prof.
Ewers is going to talk to the Dean to apply for changing the
requirements for this exam.
I hope I have been able to help you a little and wish you
good luck for the exam.
