Scientific ProgrammeOutline of the CourseThe 1st Advanced Lecture Course in 1997 inspired us to start the tradition of a "Gosau Course" on ABC protein function. As in 1997, we were very fortunate to obtain financial support from FEBS to organize this lecture course. This 2nd FEBS Course will cover all aspects of ABC protein function, both in normal and cancer cells, as well as their emerging roles in human genetic diseases. Leading scientists will discuss the state of the art knowledge about ABC genes from bacteria, fungi, parasites, plants and humans. In addition we hope that the medical importance of many ABC proteins will also attract participants from the pharmaceutical industry and biotech companies. Most importantly, we were again able to commit many leading experts in this field to participate as lecturers. Therefore, we are confident that 1999 FEBS Advanced Lecture Course on ABC proteins will be an inspiring event with an exquisite scientific programme. We are looking forward to seeing you at the "1999 Gosau Course".

List of Committed Plenary Lecturers
Finally, the course will be enriched by a Keynote Plenary Lecture and by a Final Keynote Address delivered by two outstanding contributors to this field. Oral Presentations
"Workshop Talks" and "Short Talks" will be delivered during afternoon sessions. Poster SessionThe poster session is a vital part of the lecture course. All abstracts not selected for oral presentations will be on display as posters during the entire course to leave enough time for spontaneous and informal discussions with lecturers and course participants. Hot Topic DiscussionThese discussions will be held as open plattform discussions. Discussion leaders will be selected from the plenary lecturers. The topics will depend on recent developments and late breaking stories in the ABC protein field. Industry Round Table DiscussionsWe do expect several participiants from pharmaceutical companies to attend the course. Therefore, we will also provide an opportunity for company participants to establish or intensify contacts to academic researchers on a flexible basis. Young Investigator AwardsAll abstracts submitted by graduate students or postdoctoral fellows as first authors will be evaluated by selected members of the SAB. The best 7 abstracts will be awarded a surprise cash prize, the "Gosau Young Investigator Award", at the end of the course. Timetables
