OVERVIEW
Doctor of Philosophy (study code N094):
Minimum duration: 3 years, full-time, basic-science oriented
Goals: “Science as profession” (see info under Goals)
Language: English
During studies a doctoral thesis is to be elaborated and accompanying courses are attended. Courses and doctoral thesis are allocated to thematic programs.
One of these thematic programs is to be chosen officially matched with the theme of your planned doctoral thesis. Courses offered by other thematic programs can be taken as well as far as they fit the scientific background of the thesis project.
It is recommended to contact the program coordinator of the thematic program you are interested in prior to admission to PhD studies in order to get more detailed information about the thematic program !!
Additional to the accompanying courses within the chosen thematic program you have to attend courses within the so-called “Propedeutics”.
It is highly recommended to find a supervisor for the doctoral thesis prior to admission to PhD studies! Supervisors provide financial support.
Please see relevant supervisors evaluated within the thematic programs. It is unwise to enrol without affirmation of an evaluated supervisor!
If the supervisor you are interested in is not evaluated within the thematic program of your interest please immediately ask the supervisor to contact the relevant program coordinator in order to initiate an admission procedure.
The doctoral thesis has to be associated with a peer-reviewed and funded research project. The doctorand has to be employed via this project resp. via further third-party funds. Project(s) and employment please discuss with the supervisor.
At least one first-author paper in the course of the thesis project has to be published in a peer-reviewed journal latest by the end of the PhD studies.
