Michael Schemper

born in 1952 in Vienna, Austria

       

1972 - 1977 studied Statistics at Vienna University (MSc 1976, PhD 1977)

1977 - 1991 founded and headed a Unit for Biostatistics and Documentation at the former
                     1st Dept. of Surgery of Vienna University

1985 Habilitation (Assoc. Prof.) for Medical Statistics and Documentation at Vienna University.
                     Since then lecturing on topics of Clinical Biostatistics, supervising Master's and                      Doctor's theses for students of Statistics and delivering courses on statistical                      issues of design, conduct and analysis of clinical studies and on statistical                      modeling for medical students and researchers.

1987/88 Visiting Associate Professor at the Department of Biomathematics (MDACC) of the                     University of Texas in Houston, USA.

Since 1991 Professor of Clinical Biostatistics. Founded and heads the Section for Clinical                     Biometrics at the Department of Medical Computer Sciences of the University of
                    Vienna (since 2010: Center for Medical Statistics, Informatics and Intelligent
                    Systems
of the Medical University of Vienna)

1992 - 1999 and again from 2003 - 2004 head of the Department of Medical Computer                     Sciences of the University of Vienna

2004 - 2007 head of the Core Unit for Medical Statistics and Informatics. In 2004 the                     Departments of Medical Statistics and of Medical Computer Sciences merged to                     become the Core Unit for Medical Statistics and Informatics

Since 2007 deputy head of the Core Unit for Medical Statistics and Informatics (since 2010:
                    Center for Medical Statistics, Informatics and Intelligent Systems) of the Medical
                    University of Vienna

                    International Biometric Society (IBS)

1997 - 2000 Member of the Executive Committee of the
                    International Society for Clinical Biostatistics (ISCB)

Chairman for the scientific programmes of ISCB-17 in Budapest, 1996, of ISCB-26 in Szeged,                     Hungary, 2005, and of ROeS - Seminar 1997 in Vienna

Since 2006 Associate Editor of Statistics in Medicine
