Werner Horn
Werner Horn is Associate Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the Institute of Artifical Intelligence (AI) of the Center for Medical Data Science of the Medical University of Vienna, Austria. He was head of this institute and deputy head of the center until 2018. He was further deputy head of the Teaching Center of the University until 2020. At this university he was Vice Study Dean for medicine from 2004 until 2020. Until 2005 he was lecturer at the Johannes Kepler University of Linz. From 1984 to 2004 he was head of the knowledge based systems group at the Austrian Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence (OFAI).

Werner Horn received in 1977 his diploma in computer science from the Vienna University of Technology and, in 1983, his Ph.D. with a thesis on medical expert systems.

In 1981 he was the founding president of the Austrian Society for Artificial Intelligence. From 1985 to 2010 he was vice-president of the Austrian Society for Cybernetic Studies (ÖSGK). From 2004 to 2008 he was president of the European Association for Artificial Intelligence (EurAI), formerly European Coordinating Committee on Artificial Intelligence (ECCAI). He has been awarded as a Fellow of EurAI for his pioneering work in the field of artificial intelligence and outstanding service for the European AI community.

He was a member of the Program Commitees and Advisory Boards of several European Conferences on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI) and Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (AIME) Conferences, as wall as several other conferences in the field of AI. He was Local Chair of the 10th European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI-92), Publicity Chair of the Fourth and Fifth International Conference on Principles of Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (KR-94, KR-96), Tutorial Chair of ECAI-96 (Budapest), Area Chair of ECAI-98 (Brighton), Program Chair of the Joint European Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Medical Decision Making (AIMDM'99) in Aalborg, Denmark, and Program Chair of ECAI-2000 (Berlin).
