Peter Pietschmann studied Medicine at the University of Vienna and received post-doctoral training in Internal Medicine and Pathophysiology. In 1991/1992 he completed a research fellowship at the Division of Rheumatology, Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, University of Texas, USA. Peter Pietschmann holds an associate professorship („Habilitation“) in Internal Medicine and an associate professorship in Pathophysiology. In 1999 he founded the „Bone, Gender and Aging Research Group“. Peter Pietschmann is the deputy head of the Institute of Pathophysiology and Allergy Research and the Head of the Division of Cellular and Molecular Pathophysiology. He has published over 200 scientific articles and edited two books on „Osteoimmunology“.
The major aim of the presidency of Peter Pietschmann is to promote research in the field of osteology in Austria and in particular to support young scientists working in bone and mineral research.
