At the European Congress of Immunology held in Glasgow September 5 - 9, 2012, Professor Hannes Stockinger has been re-elected by the overwhelming majority of delegates to the Treasurer of the European Federation of Immunological societies (EFIS).
EFIS is the European immunological umbrella organization that includes about 13.000 individual members from 29 national immunological societies in 31 European countries (all European union member states and all other European states) and reaches beyond the European boundaries to Armenia and Israel. The main goals of EFIS are the support of immunological research and education as well as strengthening scientific interaction amongst its members. EFIS especially focuses on supporting young scientists, e.g. through fellowships or travel grants. In recent years EFIS put also a lot of efforts on activities to activate the awareness of politicians and laypeople on the importance of immunological research to develop diagnosis and therapies for and against the major human diseases: infectious diseases, chronic inflammations, allergy and autoimmunity. These activities resulted for instance in the Day of Immunology that is now celebrated worldwide on April 29th, movie teasers such as the Immunology Knight, the translation of the children book Your Amazing Immune System into 19 different languages and its internet animation (http://www.interactive-immunity.org) or the interactive internet site Get Inside your Immune System (http://inside-immunity.org). You can find all activities and details about EFIS at the homepage www.efis.org
