Assoc. Prof. Priv.-Doz. Mag. Dr. Yan Ma studied Traditional Chinese Medicine and Biochemistry in Nanjing, China. She finished her master and doctor thesis at the Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Biochemistry in the group of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Löffelhardt at the University of Vienna. After first experiences as assistant/postdoc at the University of Vienna and at the Vienna University of Technology she began her research career as a postdoc at the Institute of Pathophysiology and Allergy Research. In 2010 she qualified as a professor in allergology and pathophysiology at the Medical University of Vienna. Currently, she is a leader of the working group of "Molecular Research in Traditional Chinese Medicine" at the Institute of Pathophysiology and Allergy Research. Since 2009 she has been working as a partner of the Austrian–Sino joint research projects with the topics "Traditional Chinese Medicine and Age-related Diseases" (2009-2012) and "Prevention and Early Intervention of Chronic Diseases by TCM: Evaluation of Immunomodulatory, Anti-inflammatory and Neuroprotective Effects" (2013-2015) granted by BMWF/BMG and the Chinese government.
Yan Ma developed the University Course for "Principles and Practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine" at the Medical University of Vienna and has been managing the course since 2010. She is deputy coordinator of Eurasia-Pacific UNINET and ASEA UNINET at the MUV and supervises many PhD students and postdoctoral scientists from China and Asia in Vienna as well as Austrian students in China.
