Sanofi-Prize 2014 for Nicole BUCHERON – congratulations !
On September 18, 2014 Nicole Bucheron and Roland Tschismarov received one of three Sanofi-Prizes awarded by the Medical University of Vienna. The award ceremony took place during a soirée for the 50th anniversary of the Sanofi Foundation at the Wiener Börse.
The work „CD4+ T cell lineage integrity is controlled by the histone deacetylases HDAC1 and HDAC2” was published in May 2014 in “Nature Immunology”. The authors, Nicole Boucheron and Roland Tschismarov (now postdoctoral fellow in Thomas Decker’s group at the Max F. Perutz Laboratories), made the main contribution to this work and share the first authorship. This study shows that the proteins histone deacetylase (HDAC) 1 and HDAC2 regulate the stability and identity of CD4+ helper T cells. In absence of both proteins, a cytotoxic CD8+ T cell program is up-regulated. These results provide a fundamental insight into the regulation and maintenance of cell identity in the immune system. This work, supported by the Vienna Science and Technology Fund (WWTF) and the FWF-MedUni Vienna PhD Program „Inflammation and Immunity“, resulted from the close collaboration of the group of Wilfried Ellmeier (division of Immunobiologie) at the Institute of Immunology (Center for Pathophysiology, Infectiology and Immunology) and the group of Christian Seiser at the Max F. Perutz Laboratories (MFPL, Medical University Vienna and University of Vienna).
