Univ.-Prof. Jensen-Jarolim was ranked in an international evaluation procedure as the most suitable candidate for this professorship. The contract was signed on Monday July 11, 2011, in a small ceremony with the rector of our University, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schütz, and the rector of the Veterinary University of Vienna, Dr. Sonja Hammerschmid.
This professorship is funded as one of four interdisciplinary chairs within the Swiss Messerli Foundation (for more details see http:// www.messerlifoundation.org). "Comparative Medicine" is a new topic that has been already established between Stanford and Yale. It is supposed to accelerate drug development now also here in Vienna through comparative studies between human and animal patients. By establishing this new field of research and the associated research laboratories at the Veterinary University, our Center gains an interdisciplinary bridge to the Veterinary University that opens also other possibility of fruitful cooperation.
