Course of Treatment
First Contact with the Department of Emergency Medicine
A nurse will record your problems and will assign you to the approriate subspeciality. Then you are asked to the counter (Leitstelle 6D - Notfälle) where the administrative staff will collect your personal data.
We ask for your understanding, that the order of examination is not according to your arrival at the department but rather according to the severity of your problems.
After administartion you will be seen by a physician. Please understand that special tests (laboratory examinations, x-ray, ...) take more time. Your time at the emergency department might be prolonged by various consultations of different specialists.
It is our ambition that you will be seen and treated by a doctor within one hour. Should your medical condition change during your stay at the emergency department please contact a nurse or doctor.
The following options for subsequent treatment exist:
1. You will e admitted to the General Hospital of Vienna (AKH)
2. You will be refered to your family doctor
3. You will be refered to a specialist outpatient clinic
4. You will be transfered to a different hospital
You have the right to get copies of your treatment records, Which you will need for further treatment at your family doctor or specialist.
Please ask the administartive staff at the counter for your records.
