The demand for highly qualified professionals in insurance medicine is increasing. They are needed to make optimal use of medical progress and the ability to finance it, to insure basic risks, to contribute to securing livelihoods in the event of disability or to clarify pension issues. Patient safety, personalised medicine, poor quality of medical reports, a shortage of experts and an increase in pensions are just some of the current problem areas.

To meet this growing demand, the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at the Medical University of Vienna is participating in the part-time MAS Insurance Medicine Master's programme run by the University of Basel and other partners in Switzerland and Germany.

The trinational continuing education programme has a modular structure. The basic modules are taught in Basel. More than 100 recognised experts from universities, health authorities, and social and private insurance companies convey the latest findings from research as well as interdisciplinary knowledge from practice. Part of the curriculum are international modules in which students deal comparatively with the different systems of Austria, Switzerland and Germany. The continuing education master’s can also be booked in smaller parts, so that a DAS (Diploma of Advanced Studies) or various CAS (Certificate of Advanced Studies with a specialist focus) can be obtained.
