The university course "Medical Physics" offers a certification course compliant with Austrian and international regulations concerning the theoretical education of certfied medical physics. These regulations include the draft for EU-guideline on radiation protection #174 - "European Guidelines on Medical Physics Expert", the rules of certification of the Austrian Society of Medical Physics (OeGMP) and the German Society of Medical Physics (DGMP) as well as the requirements of the European Federation of Medical Physics Experts (EFOMP). In Austria, the course offers a simple option to fulfill the requirements of 6 Abs. 1 Z 1 in the "Medizinische Strahlenschutzverordnung", BGBl. II Nr. 409/2004, which is the prerequisite for working as a Medical Physics expert in a clinical environment.
The education necessary to work as a Radiation Protection Officer in the medical field according to § 41 of the "Allgemeine Strahlenschutzverordnung", BGBl. II Nr. 191/2006 idgF is also provided.
