Know-how and research interests

Close to half of patients presenting with symptoms of heart failure are found to have a near normal left ventricular ejection fraction. This condition has been labeled ‘diastolic heart failure’ or ‘heart failure with preserved ejection fraction’ (HFPEF).  Patients with HFPEF face adverse outcomes with respect to morbidity and mortality, and their prognosis is similar to that of patients with systolic heart failure.

The pathophysiology underlying HFPEF is still incompletely understood. My group’s research focuses around epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis and therapy of this disease.  This is accomplished by clinical studies in the setting of a newly founded tertiary referral center for HFPEF as well translational studies including novel imaging techniques.
