Born in 1972, Assoc.-Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Wadsak studied chemistry at the University of Vienna, Austria. He completed the postgraduate diploma course in radiopharmaceutical chemistry/radiopharmacy (ETH Zurich, University of Frankfurt, University of Leipzig) and achieved the European Radiopharmacy Certificate in 2007. Wolfgang Wadsak won twice the THP award for basic scientists in nuclear medicine (2005, 2007) and was awarded the Schering-Dr.Pfeiffer Stipendium in nuclear medicine (2004). He continually teaches at the University of Vienna, the Medical University of Vienna and the Universities of Applied Sciences in Vienna and Wiener Neustadt. He has supervised several master and PhD-theses.
Since 2001, Dr. Wadsak is the production manager for PET-radiopharmaceuticals at the Vienna PET centre, responsible for the preparation of more than 20 radiotracers for patient routine and clinical research (e.g. [18F]FDG, [18F]FETO, [18F]FMISO, [18F]FET, [18F]FMeNER-d2, [11C]Methionin, [11C]Acetat, [11C]WAY100635, [11C]DASB, [11C]Harmin, [13N]NH3, [68Ga]Ga-DOTANOC, ...).
Since 2007, he heads the unit for “radiochemistry and biomarker development” within the department of Nuclear Medicine together with Dr. Markus Mitterhauser. His own research mainly focuses on medicinal radiochemistry paying special attention to the preparation of fluorine-18 and carbon-11 labeled radiopharmaceuticals using different labeling techniques and technologies. Wolfgang Wadsak is married and father of four children.
