Graduates of the postgraduate University Course in Prosthodontics - Interdisciplinary Therapy Concepts will develop skills such as:
- Diagnostics of dysfunctions
- Principles of initial therapy including various causal treatments of malocclusion
- Interdisciplinary networking in diagnostics and initial therapy
- Cooperation with interdisciplinary areas of stomatology, like orthodontics, oral
- Surgery and periodontology, both in diagnostics and in therapy planning
- Preparing of intradisciplinary treatment concepts for the definitive rehabilitation of the masticatory organ
Students of the university course gain skills in the clinically relevant fields of prosthodontics such as ceramic restaurations, double crown, technique, implant restaurations as well as diagnosis and therapy of CMD which allows them to plan complex cases and perform interdisciplinary therapy for these patients.
The aim of the master course is the aquisition of detailed theoretical and practical knowledge and of skills reaching far beyond the curriculum of dental school.
Building on these theoretical and practical skills, clinically relevant knowledge of all fields of prosthodontic work will be tought. Demographic developements are leading to an increased life span resultig in a larger percentage of older patients. For patients of high age the adequate rehabilitation of masticatory organ is an important factor to improve life quality.
There is an increase of patients with TMJ. A profound education in diagnostic and therapeutic possibilities is an important factor in health economics. Interdisciplinary diagnosis and treatment are an important part of this curriculum.
Another main topic is focused on the interdisciplinary treatment of the complex patient: Patients with dysgnathia, post oral surgery, patients with anxiety or neurological or psychiatric problems.
New scientific results, rapid developement of dental materials and new technologies are forcing the craniomandibular system to adapt to new challenges. Strategic case planning becomes very important.
Modern dentistry needs to be an interdisciplinary teamwork in order to deal with complex cases. Coexisting deseases force dentists to work together with other medical disciplines. A comprehensive and standardized case documentation is the basis of modern "evidence based" treatment. Scientific knowledge and evidence based dentistry become more and more important in the context of an interdisciplinary treatment. Interdisciplinary networking of the different medical disciplines needs profound and conceptional knowledge of different diagnostic and therapeutic options.
Interdisciplinary dentistry aims to imporve the complete health status of patients.
