ABC transporter function
A PhD position is available immediately at the Institute of Pharmacology, Medical University of Vienna. The project aims at elucidating fundamental principles of ABC-transporter function using computation methods from homology modelling to free energy calculations. Two related transporters of the B family (ABCB1 and ABCB11) will be compared to elucidate the basic paradigms of the transport cycle. Human ABCB1 (P-glycoprotein) is a paradigm for ABC-exporter and a major determinant of the response of human disease to systemic pharmacotherapy. The homolog bile salt transporter ABCB11 (BSEP) is very selective for it cargo and linked to inherited and drug induced diseases.
The research is conducted within the multidisciplinary framework of the SFB35 program “Transmembrane Transporters in Health and Disease” (http://www.sfb35.at) and will have a strong link to experiments. We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a strong background in molecular modelling, simulations or structural biology and a firm interest in membrane transporter function.
