Advances in the field of systems biology have increased our understanding of the mechanisms that drive autoimmunity and inflammation and led to the development of novel therapies and therapeutic
strategies, such as Janus-kinase inhibitors and precision medicine approaches. In parallel, better characterization of the complexity of clinical manifestations have increased our understanding of the sophistications of common as well as rare disease.

Future challenges will be to integrate big data derived from omics with clinical data to foster the development of stratified therapies in rheumatology and beyond.  Novel techniques such as deep learning, will help to predict disease courses and treatment responses in order to tailor treatment towards maximizing therapeutic effects and minimizing adverse events. Future studies will aim to translate molecular knowledge into clinical applications and ultimately to prevent the development of autoimmune diseases.

These and other important aspects wil be addressed in this symposium.
