MedUni Vienna once again represented in THE Ranking

(Vienna, 6 September 2017) The Medical University of Vienna has once again been included in the recently published Times Higher Education Ranking – the most prestigious university ranking in the world – and is listed as the second-best Austrian university after the University of Vienna. MedUni Vienna is in joint 251-300th place, while the University of Vienna is in 165th place. The comparatively more relevant Ranking for MedUni Vienna - the special Ranking for "Medicine" - is expected to be published in October.

Only eight out of the 34 Austrian universities have made it into the latest THE Ranking.

Asiatic universities racing to catch up
In a statement made to the EPA (Austria Press Agency), Phil Baty, who publishes the Ranking, rated Austria's results as "quite good", especially in view of the rapid rise of the Asiatic universities. The list of the Top 30 universities illustrates how Asia is catching up with Europe: this list already includes three Asiatic universities, while Europe has lost three places and now only has seven universities in this top group. The best continental European university is once again the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule (ETH) Zürich, which occupies 10th place (2016: 9). The University of Oxford continues to head up the Ranking, followed by the University of Cambridge (2016: 4).

One thousand universities from 77 countries were included in this year's evaluation and were ranked according to 13 indicators. These indicators relate to the five areas of research, teaching, citations, international outlook and procurement of external funding from industry and commerce.
