Prim. Univ. Doz. Dr. Georg Röggla is Associate Editor of the BMJ

(Vienna, 11 Jan. 2010) Prim. Univ. Doz. Dr. Georg Röggla, a former employee at the Department of Emergency Medicine for many years who still has strong links with MedUni Vienna thanks to an existing cooperation in research and teaching, has been appointed Associate Editor of the BMJ (British Medical Journal).

Background information: the BMJ is a journal with a long tradition which is published by BMJ Publishing Group Ltd (owned by the British Medical Association) in London. It has appeared weekly since 1840 and is therefore one of only a few specialist journals which can look back on an even longer tradition than the Wiener klinische Wochenschrift, which first appeared in 1888. The BMJ claims to be the most read and most influential medical journal in the world: "Our mission is to lead the debate on health and to engage, inform, and stimulate doctors, researchers, and other health professionals in ways that will improve outcomes for patients. We aim to help doctors to make better decisions". The current circulation is 122,000 copies, but the reach of bmj.com is much higher with 1.3 million readers each month. The impact factor is 12.827 (ISI Web of Science, 2008).

As Associate Editor Röggla deals with submitted publications through the entire review process and belongs to the committee (formerly "hanging committee") which ultimately decides whether to accept a publication or not.
