6th PhD Symposium at MedUni Vienna

(Vienna, 16 June 2010) Taking place today and tomorrow is the now traditional PhD Symposium of young scientists, where upcoming researchers present their work and exchange information with established scientists. With more than 360 participants from home and abroad, a new record was set this year.

In 2004 the first PhD Symposium was held with not even 200 participants, with the organisation being in the hands of the Young Scientists Association (YSA) from the outset. The YSA was founded by PhD students from MedUni Vienna in order to expand and improve the network and exchange of young scientists. In recent years PhD students have been able to successfully publish their work in well-known research publications. This year there has been something in Cell, DIABETES and Gastroenterology. These and other works are presented and discussed at the symposium. Dr. Marija Geroldinger-Simic, President of the YSA, explains: "The increasing popularity of our symposium can also be seen in the internationality of the participants, more of whom have come to Vienna from the whole of Europe this year than ever before. Our keynote speakers also come from well-known research institutions such as the National Institute of Health and the Max Planck Group."

This means that in 2010 the dedicated organisational team headed by Dr.in Marija Geroldinger-Simic from the Institute of Pathophysiology and Allergy Research has again made an important step towards interdisciplinary cooperation spanning different generations.
