(Vienna, 16th June 2011) The MedUni Vienna is a family-friendly university. Vice-Rector Karin Gutiérrez-Lobos yesterday received the State Seal of Quality for the university's family-friendly policies from Science Minister Karlheinz Töchterle and Ingrid Nemec, Section Manager in the Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth. The MedUni Vienna had previously undergone an audit.

"We took part in the University and Family audit as a pilot university in order to anchor the reconciliation of family and university life within our institution in the long term", says Karin Gutiérrez-Lobos, Vice-Rector for HR Development and the Promotion of Women's Issues, explaining the motives behind the MedUni Vienna's commitment to the issue.

Core areas of activity include the organisation of study, science and teaching, working time and work organisation, training and management as well as childcare. A project group comprising students, general and scientific staff also developed measures that are to be implemented by the time of the next audit in three years' time.

"The aim is to create framework conditions for employees and students so that it is easier for women to access professions and studies", says Karin Gutiérrez-Lobos. One project that is being worked on intensively in this context is the establishment of a nursery that will in future be available both to employees and to students.
