Working Group for Equal Opportunities

As laid down in UG 2002, the Working Group for Equal Opportunities of the Medical University of Vienna has the task of counteracting any discrimination by university bodies on grounds of gender, ethnicity, religion, conviction, age or sexual orientation and to advise and support the university members and bodies on issues of equality of opportunity for women and men as well as on the promotion of women's issues.

The Working Group for Equal Opportunities is a point of contact for all members of the Medical University of Vienna. It is independent and not bound by any external instructions.

Staff members and students may contact any of the representatives of the Working Group if they find themselves in a problematic situation. Handling all cases in a discreet and confidential manner is the utmost priority of all representatives.

Once a complaint has been made, the Working Group will consult with and obtain the approval of the individuals affected prior to taking any steps and measures. In the event of there being justified suspicion of unequal treatment, an appeal against the decision may be lodged with the Arbitration Committee.

The Working Group attaches great importance to ensuring that equal opportunities and the advancement of women are adequately reflected in structural decision-making processes, personnel policy, clinical practice, research and teaching, as well as in target agreements. In order to implement this legal mandate, the Career Advancement Plan for Women and Equal Opportunities Plan were drafted and revised. Upon their approval by the Senate of the Medical University, these plans became an integral part of the Statutes.

The members of the Working Group perform the tasks defined therein in cooperation with the Rectorate, the staff units and central administrative departments.

"We grow stronger with every success and will continue to tackle problems until everyone is treated equally."
