The Medical University of Vienna's Department of Trauma-Surgery at Vienna General Hospital has an international reputation for the acute care and after-care of patients requiring trauma surgery.
Its priorities are patient care, the education of students and research in the field of traumatology. Every year it treats more than 45,000 patients with recent injuries, 5,000 of these in the hospital and 40,000 as outpatients.
Trauma surgery includes the surgical treatment and restoration of traumatically damaged body structures and organs. Typical tasks performed in trauma surgery range from the treatment of injuries to the musculoskeletal system, such as bone fractures and soft tissue injuries to muscles and tendons, to the treatment of accident victims with multiple injuries.
