HR Excellence in Research Award

Human Resources Strategy for Researchers

HR Excellence in Research

In 2005, the European Commission introduced the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. The Charter and Code include 40 principles which set out general criteria on the roles, responsibilities and duties of researchers, employers and funding organizations. The Medical University of Vienna endorsed the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers in 2009.

The HR Excellence in Research Award, developed in 2008, strengthens the implementation of the charter and code. This award is given to institutions that adopt and implement the 40 principles of the Charter & Code, based on a customized action plan, committed HR policy and a long-term strategy.

The Medical University of Vienna received the HR Excellence in Research Award on the 15th of March, 2022, and is now one of 10 certified institutions in Austria. In a comprehensive process of internal analysis and evaluation of strategies, structures and procedures, a detailed comparison between the principles from the Charter & Code and the status of current conditions and practice (Gap Analysis) was carried out. As a result, the specific action plan for the first implementation phase of two years (Action Plan) was developed and proposed.

The continuous implementation of the Action Plan will be accompanied by an ongoing periodic evaluation process carried out by reviewers authorized by the EU Commission.

In March 2024, the Interim Assessment for the HR Excellence in Research Award has been completed successfully, confirming the MedUni Vienna as an attractive employer for researchers.
