The Medical University of Vienna (MedUni Vienna), with more than 6,500 staff members and around 8,600 students, is one of the largest academic medical universities in the EU. At the interuniversity Ignaz Semmelweis Institute (§20c UG) of MedUni Vienna, a Postdoctoral Research Position (40 hours per week) will be available starting September 1st, 2025 (for a duration of 6 years).

The minimum salary for these positions is currently Euro 4.932,-- (before tax) monthly (14x per year). Depending on the experience of the applicant, the salary could potentially also be higher in accordance with collective agreements.

 

Your Responsibilities – impactful and interdisciplinary

  • Independent planning and execution of research projects in immunology, virology, and infectious disease biology
  • Development and application of advanced molecular and cell biology techniques
  • Utilization of preclinical models to study immune responses and vaccine concepts
  • Active collaboration in interdisciplinary and international research teams
  • Publication of results in high-impact peer-reviewed scientific journals

Your Profile – scientifically excellent and broadly skilled

  • Completed PhD, MD, or DVM from a recognized university or reputable research institute
  • Proven track record of outstanding research, evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Solid background in immunology, infectious disease biology, molecular medicine, cell biology or biotechnology
  • Strong ability to work across disciplines and tackle complex scientific questions
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills (English is the working language in the lab)
  • Strong team spirit, scientific curiosity, and initiative

Desired Technical Expertise (proficiency in several of the following is expected):

  • Viral serology (e.g., ELISA, neutralization assays)
  • Molecular virology (especially reverse genetics)
  • Work with vaccines and viruses in mouse models
  • Experience in BSL-2/2+/3 laboratory environments
  • Expression and purification of recombinant proteins
  • Hybridoma technology for monoclonal antibody production
  • Single-cell sorting and cloning of human antibodies from B cells
  • Vaccine design and development
