Research interests

My main interest is to understand better how psychiatric disease phenotypes and psychopharmacologic therapies affect the methylation status at the BDNF gene, which is an important candidate gene in affective disorders. My major research experience, though, has come through an ongoing research project "Vienna Study on Genetics of Suicidal Behaviour in Affective Disorders" (KLIF 220; principal investigator: Priv.-Doz. Dr. Alexandra Schosser, PhD.). In the context of my PhD I'm working in the field of psychiatric (epi-)genetics on my doctoral thesis, "BDNF - Epigenetic regulation in MDD". I analysed the methylation status of one BDNF gene promoter in a large sample of 600 affective disorder patients and healthy control subjects.
