With around 6.500 employees and 8.600 students, the Medical University of Vienna is one of the largest top-level biomedical research and teaching institutions in Europe. The Department of Medicine II is looking for a part-time (30 hours per week) PhD-Position (m/f/x) (with immediate effect). This is a contract for a duration until 31.8.2028.

 

The Pulmonology Laboratory at the Medical University of Vienna conducts clinical and basic research focusing on purinergic signaling in common lung diseases. Purinergic signaling influences all aspects of inflammatory processes and immune defense. Our research focuses on the pulmonary immune system to achieve reliable and lasting immune control in inflammatory lung diseases and successful anti-tumor immunity. We are looking for a highly motivated, committed, and passionate Ph.D. student to join our international team. The project focuses on investigating the fundamental mechanisms underlying lung disease development, particularly asthma and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and developing new therapies. Knowledge of in vitro and preclinical models is required.

 

Your Tasks

  • In vivo assessment of the mode of action of candidate genes. Furthermore, the effectiveness of various therapeutic agents will be evaluated in vivo
  • Use various molecular and cell biology methods, including cell culture of primary cells and cell lines, multiplex assays, cloning, PCR, qRT-PCR, Western blot, histology, immunohistology, immunofluorescence, and microscopy
  • Genetic manipulation of primary cells and cell lines using CRISPR-Cas9 and episomal vectors
  • In vitro and ex vivo assays to understand disease mechanisms
  • Isolate and cultivate primary cells from tissue biopsies
  • Processing tissue samples
  • Precise documentation of experiments

Your Profile

  • A master's degree in a relevant field such as genetics, microbiology, molecular biology, or biotechnology is required
  • Experience with mouse models and FELASA certification are advantageous
  • Experience with cell culture, ELISA, cloning, PCR, qRT-PCR, Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and/or flow cytometry is required
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and solution-oriented; Independent and proactive work style
  • Highly motivated, flexible, socially competent, and a team player willing to learn and develop new techniques
  • We collaborate with multiple national and international research groups; The selected candidate is expected to work with these groups

The minimum monthly salary for this position (Uni-KV, VerwGr. B1) is currently Euro 2.832,-- gross (14x per year) on a part-time basis and may be increased by taking into account relevant previous experience and other salary components related to the specificities of the job.
