The Ludwig-Boltzmann-Cluster for Cardiovascular Research The Ludwig-Boltzmann-Cluster for Cardiovascular Research focuses on interdisciplinary research of therapies for cardiovascular diseases. In a longstanding tradition since the late 60ties of the last century, surgeons, physicians, biomedical engineers and chemists, and experimental physicians are closely cooperating in translational research. The Cluster was established as a union of the former LB-Institutes for Cardio-Surgical Research, Cardiovascular Research and Arrhythmia Research. Current major areas of research include mechanical cardiac assist, the protection of the heart during interventions and transplantation, vascular prostheses, questions of inflammation, revascularization, and diabetes-related cardiovascular diseases.
