The rush for places at MedUni Vienna also includes the youngest people. Most of the 92 lectures at the Children's Medical University were already fully booked just a few days after registration began, and with a total attendance of 5,732 the lectures in the large lecture halls at MedUni Vienna were even taken to their limit in terms of capacity.

 
 

An interdisciplinary working group headed by Ao. Univ. Prof. Dr. Gerold Holzer and Univ. Prof. DI Dr. Christine Mannhalter, who both work at MedUni Vienna, has been able to prove that the connection between vitamin K and bone density can be negatively influenced by mutations in a recently discovered gene. This finding could change future therapy decisions for affected risk groups.

 
 

Until the 1990s HIV infection was still seen as a death sentence, but today more than 90 percent of patients are treated successfully. It is, however, difficult to treat "late presenters", those people who are unaware of their disease for a long time. After a two-year break, today Federal Minister Beatrix Karl, Rector Wolfgang Schütz and the Head of Department Univ. Prof. Dr. Daniele U. Risser officially opened the newly renovated Forensic Medicine Department. Three hundred to four hundred autopsies will be carried out here each year on behalf of the Vienna Public Prosecution Department.
