Thesis Projects
Purpose: Training in self-dependent original research work in medical neurosciences under supervision by an experienced mentoring team (supervisor, thesis committee members, lecturers)
The thesis project is the main and central element of CLINS.
The thesis proposal (project plan) needs to be finalized and submitted in the course of the 1st to 2nd semester of CLINS studies.
The thesis project needs to address an original scientific problem in biomedicine.
The project plan needs to describe background of the project, materials/patients/methods, expected results and originality/clinical relevance. The project description needs to be understandable to medical researchers who are not experts in the field.
The project plan needs to be defended „in public“ by the CLINS candidate in front of the thesis committee and the coordinator of CLINS.
The defensio will be successful if
- the planned project is compatible with medical ethics
- the project addresses an original scientific problem in biomedicine
- motivation of doctoral candidate and mentors is authentic
- the project plan is complete and reasonable
- space, equipment, consumables needed for the project are available
After successful defensio, the project plan will be submitted to the curriculum director. After approval by the curriculum director the thesis proposal is officially registered as dissertation at the Medical University of Vienna.
Progress of the thesis project will be monitored on occasion of annual thesis committee meetings. It is the task of the doctoral student to organise the committee meetings in time. The CLINS coordinator will participate in all committee meetings.
