(Vienna, 2 October 2026) With the start of the new academic year, 724 first-year medical students and 80 first-year dental students began their studies at MedUni Vienna this week. Rector Markus Müller and Vice-Rector Anita Rieder welcomed the new students at the ‘White Coat Welcome’ event in the new Eugene Braunwald Auditorium at the Center for Translational Medicine at MedUni Vienna.
As a symbol of the start of their studies, the new students were presented with MedUni Vienna lab coats. The evening also provided an opportunity to make initial contacts and get to know their new fellow students.
The first-year students had qualified for a place through the MedAT admissions process and are now embarking on their studies in medicine or dentistry. For students in higher years, too, lectures for the new winter semester are beginning this week.
