MedUni Vienna climbs up CWTS Leiden Ranking

Publications and citations: Position 90 in the "Biomedical and health sciences" category

(Vienna, 24 May 2017) MedUni Vienna has climbed up the international CWTS Leiden Ranking and now occupies 90th place in the "Biomedical and health sciences" category (2016: 98th).  Every year the Leiden Ranking compares universities in terms of the number of publications they have produced and their citation impact.

Research excellence is also measured by the frequency of citations from a university's publications – the CWTS Leiden Ranking uses this factor as a basis for its annual evaluation of universities. The annual CWTS Leiden Ranking is published by the Centre for Science and Technology Studies of Leiden University (Netherlands). This year the comparison includes 902 of the major universities throughout the world.

With its 3558 publications (2012 to 2015), MedUni Vienna has successfully climbed up eight places to position 90 in the "Biomedical and health sciences" category. In the overall ranking, MedUni Vienna moved up from position 273 to position 264.

The overall ranking is headed up by Harvard University, followed by the University of Toronto. These two universities also top the ranking for medicine.
