(Vienna, 28 September 2017) Run as far as you want, as fast as you want, with whomsoever you want and however you want – but run for cancer research! This will be the motto for the 11th MedUni Vienna Cancer Research Run, which will take place on Saturday 7 October 2017 (10 – 14:00 hours) on a 1-mile circuit on the Old General Hospital site – net proceeds will go directly to support the fight against cancer. In 2016, the Cancer Research Run won the Austrian Fundraising Award as "Collaboration of the year".
The anniversary run also raised the largest amount of money so far: 3,000 runners covered 22,217 km and raised just over €160,000, which have been well invested in the fight against cancer: in research into personalised medicine and immunology. Since 2007, the Cancer Research Run, and the thousands of laps completed, have funded a total of 42 major research projects.
Once again this year, many prominent supporters are doing their bit. Actors and artists Erich Schleyer, Manuel Rubey, Pia Hierzegger, Julia Cencig, Martin Oberhauser, Patricia Aulitzky, rapid goalkeeper trainer Helge Payer and presenters Elisabeth Engstler and Volker Piesczek, plus extreme marathon runner Andreas Gindlhumer and many-time kickboxing world champion Nicole Trimmel, are supporting the Cancer Research Run.
You can find out why they are all backing the Cancer Research Run and how they are training for 7 October on the Cancer Research Run's Facebook page: www.facebook.com/Krebsforschungslauf/. Other participants can also use the page to reveal their motivation for running in the fight against cancer!
