Technology and medicine: MedUni Vienna and DARWIN’S CIRCLE are jointly staging the first Tech Health Conference on 23 May 2019

Ticket revenues will go towards building the Center for Precision Medicine

(Vienna, 02 May 2019) MedUni Vienna and Darwin's Circle have jointly organised the first Darwin's Circle Digital Health Conference, which will take place on 23 May 2019. This will make Vienna the centre for digitisation and health on this day. The full-day event will bring together leading experts from the fields of genetics, healthcare 4.0 and robotics and will be held in MedUni Vienna's Van Sweeten Hall.

Focus on precision medicine
What will the medicine of tomorrow look like? What technological trends will characterise the future of medicine? How will patients benefit from the new possibilities offered by digital medicine? Leading experts will provide answers to these and many other exciting questions at this joint event organised by MedUni Vienna and Darwin's Circle Digital Conference. The focus will therefore be on the most significant trend in 21st century medicine: precision medicine. In recognition of this trend, MedUni Vienna is building a Center for Precision Medicine on the MedUni General Hospital campus starting in 2022 and proceeds from the event on 23 May will go towards this centre.

As far as the technical content is concerned, MedUni Vienna has set up an inner circle of curators comprising medical experts led by MedUni Vienna Vice Rector Michaela Fritz, who is responsible for research and innovation. Darwin’s Circle and MedUni Vienna have assembled leading representatives from the fields of genetics, healthcare and robotics, for example, including:

  • Chantelle Kiernan, Director of Lifesciences at Nuritas (biotechnology)
  • Bart de Witte, former Director for Digital Health at IBM & founder of Hippo AI Foundation
  • Markus Hengstschläger, Medical University of Vienna, Head of the Institute of Genetics
  • Moritz Helmstädter, Max Planck Institute for Brain Research, Managing Director
  • Claudia Schnugg, Creative Director of Science Gallery Venice, Ca' Foscari University of Venice

Ticket revenues go towards Center for Precision Medicine
Over the next few years, three centres are to be built on the MedUni General Hospital Campus to provide a sustainable basis for 21st century medicine: the Center for Precision Medicine, Center for Translational Medicine and Therapies and Center for Technology Transfer.

Construction of the Center for Precision Medicine will start in 2022 and will be funded by sponsors and private donors. That is why all ticket revenues from Darwin's Circle Health will go towards the building of this centre. The number of tickets is restricted to 300 and each ticket costs €490 (ex VAT).

The new Center will focus in particular on biomedical research, clinical studies, genome technology, bioinformatics and IT. It's close proximity to Vienna General Hospital will be particularly advantageous to patients: clinical doctors and basic researchers will be working together on the same site to develop the very latest knowledge, so that patients can be treated using state-of-the-art medicine – and the results of basic research can feed directly into new treatments even more rapidly than before.
