(Vienna/Graz/Innsbruck/Linz, 23-02-2023) The responsible agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation "AQ Austria" has revoked the accreditation of the Master's programme in Human Medicine at Sigmund Freud Private University. A revocation of accreditation requires serious deviations from international standards. The detailed circumstances are not generally known, but should be made transparent by publishing the relevant expert opinions and notices.
On 22.2.2023, a single medical university was contacted in writing by the rector of Sigmund Freud Private University with the request to establish a joint study programme. Such an approach is not compatible with legal and qualitative requirements at the Austrian medical universities and the Medical Faculty of the Johannes Kepler University Linz. The deficits of the Sigmund Freud Private University identified in the revocation of accreditation can therefore not be compensated for by the medical universities or the Medical Faculty of Linz. No "negotiations" have ever taken place in this context. Last but not least, the use of public funds to remedy deficiencies in the private university sector is excluded.
The Medical Universities and the Medical Faculty in Linz fully understand the concerns of the students affected by the revocation of accreditation. In addition to a solution in the private university sector, the affected students have the option of applying for a place at the Medical Universities or the Medical Faculty of Linz in accordance with the applicable regulations. In the case of acceptance, the studies can be continued and corresponding previous achievements are accredited.
