(Vienna, 20-11-2023) - Alex Farr, Deputy Head of the Division of Obstetrics and Feto-Maternal Medicine at MedUni Vienna's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, was elected as the new President of the Austrian Society for Pre- and Perinatal Medicine at its anniversary conference in Vienna. The society is one of the few interdisciplinary societies in the field of perinatology in Europe.
Alex Farr takes over this position from Christian Dadak and will now steer the fortunes of the Austrian Society for Pre- and Perinatal Medicine. The society is a national specialist society that unites the fields of obstetrics, neonatology, anaesthesia, paediatric surgery, radiology and midwifery. This interdisciplinary care is exemplified by the Comprehensive Centre for Pediatrics (CCP) at MedUni Vienna. It is a Europe-wide flagship project that brings together and networks all experts for pregnant women, children and adolescents at the Medical University of Vienna at one location. The focus is on interdisciplinary exchange in order to guarantee optimal medical care for pregnant women, children and adolescents with acutely life-threatening, rare diseases or chronic conditions.
Alex Farr is a recognised expert in the field of obstetrics and infectiology in gynaecology and has made an international name for himself through his research and work at the Medical University of Vienna. He is a member of the EuroPeristat network of perinatological epidemiologists and is the lead author of several AWMF guidelines. He is committed to improving the perinatal care of mother and child and to correct and innovative approaches in the diagnosis and treatment of vaginal infections, which can pose a risk of premature birth during pregnancy.
The Austrian Society for Pre- and Perinatal Medicine is the leading interdisciplinary specialist society for perinatology in Austria. It endeavours to promote and improve research, training and patient care in this field. In an international hearing, Alex Farr was able to bring the upcoming congress of the European Association of Perinatal Medicine (EAPM) to Vienna, which will bring together thousands of international perinatologists in Vienna in September 2024 under his presidency at the university.
