(Vienna, 16 July 2026) Helmuth Haslacher from the Department of Laboratory Medicine at MedUni Vienna has been appointed as the new National Node Director of BBMRI.at. He thus takes over the leadership of the Austrian node of the European research infrastructure network for biobanks, BBMRI-ERIC. Furthermore, he has been nominated as a member of the BBMRI-ERIC Management Committee and as an adviser to the Austrian delegation in the Assembly of Members.
With his appointment as National Node Director, Helmuth Haslacher succeeds Georg Göbel of the Medical University of Innsbruck as head of BBMRI.at. The joint nomination put forward by the Medical Universities of Vienna, Graz and Innsbruck, as well as the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna, has been confirmed by the Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research.
Helmuth Haslacher is Head of the MedUni Vienna Biobank and has held a leading role within BBMRI.at for many years. As head of the ‘Quality Management’ work package, he is responsible for a key area of the Austrian biobank research infrastructure. Furthermore, he has extensive experience in the governance structures of BBMRI.at and has been involved in the activities of BBMRI-ERIC at European level for many years.
Alongside his work in biobanking, Haslacher works as a scientist and specialist in clinical laboratory medicine. His research focuses on biobanking, quality management and clinical laboratory medicine. He has also been involved in European quality and standardisation activities for many years.
